Importance of Annual Child Wellness Visits

chid with doctor and parent

Annual well-child visits are recommended for children starting at age three. These visits include a complete physical exam, free vaccines, and vision and hearing tests. Your child's primary care provider or doctor will also monitor your child’s physical and emotional growth and well-being at every visit and “identify” any conditions that may exist. At these visits, you may get referrals for any treatment services your child may need to get well and to stay healthy.

Annual Child Wellness Visits are covered by Carolina Complete Health.
There is no cost to the member.

What is Included During an Annual Well-Child Visit?

  1. A Full Physical Exam: During each visit, your child's primary care doctor will perform a head-to-toe exam that includes checking vital signs, height, weight, and their blood pressure.
  2. Immunizations (Shots): Your child's doctor will review and catch up on any missed  or late immunizations (as needed). Immunizations are an important part of children’s yearly visit. They can help provide protection from certain diseases and many of them are required before children can go to daycare or school.
  3. Developmental Assessment: Your child's doctor will track their growth, milestones, and behavioral concerns through these annual visits and make referrals to a specialist (if needed).
  4. Recommended Screenings: During the annual visit, the doctor will include recommended screenings to check your child's vision and hearing.
  5. Health Education and Discussion: During these well-child visits the doctor will provide education on topics like diet, sleep, and other health routines.  They will also allow time for you to ask questions or answer your concerns.
